Infectious diarrheal diseases are the second leading cause of mortality and morbidity in children and adult patients.  Severe diarrhea may require hospitalization and may lead to death. Nearly 3% of neonatal mortality and 17% of under five mortality is due to diarrhea. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that foodborne diseases account for approximately 76 million illnesses per year in the United States. The Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel (GPP) is a multiplexed nucleic acid test intended for the simultaneous qualitative detection and identification of multiple viral, parasitic, and bacterial nucleic acids in human stool specimens from individuals with signs and symptoms of infectious colitis or gastroenteritis. Our PCR panel cuts down the results time from an average of 72 hours to 24 hours.
